Glow with the Flow!

My summer motto now has a tutorial!

My favorite part about warm weather is the warm sun that comes with it. I love to pack on the highlight on my face during the warmer months because I want to be able to shine from the ground all the way to heaven. Lately, I’ve been really loving having a light face and just a lot of highlighting products on my face. It’s not great to go overboard, but you just have to know when and where.

Wing Queen

And by wing, I wish I meant chicken wing.

Before I even started doing my makeup on camera, I would constantly get asked, “How do you do your winged liner?” or I always get compliments on my winged liner. Many people don’t believe me but it really took me a lot of practice to get my winged liner skills up there, man! AND I’M SO FREAKING PROUD OF IT.

In this tutorial, I break down in the easiest way possible on how to achieve a perfect winged liner look. Winged liner doesn’t have to be a hard thing! Just follow my simple, easy steps in 1, 2, 3.

True Life: I want to be a YouTube Star

Screen Shot 2018-03-07 at 7.51.17 PM

Okay. So maybe I don’t exactly aspire to be a YouTube star, but I wouldn’t be mad if was either! I know that I haven’t been blogging as much as I want to or like to. There’s no excuse for it really. I’ve been using my blogging time to binge watch makeup tutorials and product reviews on YouTube. After spending countless hours doing that, I knew that I wanted to be the one other people were watching.

Now, let’s make one thing clear: I don’t like to be the center of attention. I don’t like thousands of eyes staring at me at the same time. I get nervous speaking in public and starting a conversation with a random person terrifies me. But for some reason I feel comfortable when it’s just me and the camera. (Being an only child and talking to myself in the mirror makes for good practice).

That being said, I started my own YouTube Channel! I will be focusing on makeup tutorials, keeping up with makeup trends and posting reviews on newly released products. I hope that those of you who follow my blog and follow me on social media will support me on YouTube. I’m looking forward to creating relationships with my subscribers and creating fun and exciting content for me and everyone watching. I’ll be posting a link to my video below. Let me know your thoughts and of course – don’t forget to subscribe!

Lighten Up Your Holiday

Holiday time is a time for family, friends and travel. During this season, people all over the world are trying to make it home to their loved ones as easy as possible. But with that comes your luggage. For some – like myself – it’s hard to pack light, especially for a makeup junkie. This post is specifically for the girl that wants to do her makeup during the holidays while carrying as little as possible in her luggage.

My very first tip is to pack ONLY your must have items. The items you absolutely cannot live without. Trust me. By doing this you can avoid overpacking times ten. The following is my holiday travel must haves for whether I’m going for a nighttime or daytime look. My second tip is for those who subscribe to Ipsy, something similar to Ipsy. Most of the items that are sent are sample sizes and take up very little space. Plus, you get to test out new product on your spare time.

Starting with the face, my current must-have/go-to foundation is CoverGirl’s Vitalist Healthy Elixr Foundation. I never thought that I would have a drug store foundation that I love so much until I tried this one. It has a buildable coverage, makes my skin look absolutely flawless and gives me no flashback, which is perfect for taking pictures with flash. This foundation also doesn’t crease on my face and lasts over 12 hours. I can really depend on this foundation from morning all the way till the night time.

Now to set my face, I use nothing other than Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder. With this powder and my CoverGirl foundation, I know everything is going to stay in place. Just like the foundation, there is no flashback and even with a light dusting, this powder is going to lock your makeup into place for sure!

I usually don’t like to spend a lot of time on my eyes when I’m away but I do like to pack a small eyeshadow palette with me just in case I get the sudden urge to be creative. A perfect sized palette to bring on any trip would be any City Mini eyeshadow palette by Maybelline. My favorite one that has shadows for daytime and nighttime looks is the MakeupShayla x Maybelline City Mini Palette. There a perfect balance of warm and dark tones which makes for an easy transition if you’re going to be out all day. The best part? It fits in the palm of your hand! (Here’s a picture of the palette with and without flash.)

Speaking of the eyes, one thing that I cannot go without is mascara. Even if I’m not wearing a full face of makeup, I’ll never leave my house without mascara. With just a coat, you look awake and refreshed. Currently, I have a favorite mascara which is Lights, Camera, Lashes by tarte, but on my trip I always bring back ups. Usually every month in my Ipsy bag I’ll get a mascara sample, which is why I decided to pack two more with me for the holidays. Coming along with me are Excessive Lash by Makeup Forever and They’re Real by benefit cosmetics.

For highlight, a go-to of mine is Maybeline’s Master Chrome in the shade Molten Gold. The Maybelline highlight is one of my favorites because the more you apply, the more intense it gets. It’s easy to go from daytime to nighttime with this one single highlight. Even with this one shade, this is one that I’ve seen looks great on all skin tones. My favorite way to apply this highlight is to first brush it over my cheekbones with a rounded blush brush, then blend it in with a thick fan brush. Every time I’ve applied this particular highlight this way, it comes or looking more natural.

Last, but definitely not least, are the lips. Lately, I’ve been loving lip glosses because they don’t make my lips look super dry in the cold weather. My fave at the moment is the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer by Fenty Beauty. I had no idea that I would love this gloss so much and now I pretty much don’t go anywhere without it. It leaves my lips glossy for hours, doesn’t have a sticky consistency and goes great with any makeup look that I do. Oh. And did I mention it smells (and tastes) fantastic? Yum.

With just under 10 makeup products, I feel pretty confident that I’ll look my best over the holidays – cause you know there’ll be plenty of picture taking. Not only that. I don’t have to care a luggage full of makeup I probably won’t use and I’ve saved a ton of space in my luggage for all the presents I’m bringing home! 😉

Happy Holidays!

Product Review: Blueberry Bliss Curl Collection

Being a curly girl requires plenty of trial and error. Sure, we didn’t ASK for curly hair, but it’s what we got and we have to take care of it, right? Right. Throughout my transition, I’ve tried multiple products from brands that claimed to work with all typed of curls. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t fall in love with anything. There are some products that worked really well for my hair type (3C/4A), but I always knew there was something better out there for me.

And of course, I was right!

I first heard about Curls while watching my favorite talk show, The Real. Mahisha Dellinger, CEO, was a guest on the show to talk about Curls’ new Blueberry Bliss line. Then one day while I was at Face Values, I took a look at the natural hair care aisle and saw a couple of the products from that line on the shelf. Each product from the line is less than $25. I bought 5 products and after my first use, I immediately fell in love!

Products from left to right: Reparative Leave In Conditioner, Twist-N-Shout Cream, Curl Control Jelly, Reparative Hair Mask, Reparative Hair Wash

The entire line smells AMAZINGGG! Like, good enough to eat, amazing. The Blueberry Bliss line is designed to soften and hydrate the driest curls and help promote growth. This line of hair care includes products like a leave in conditioner, hair mask and growth oil. Even though I didn’t try everything from the line yet, I’m sure I will love the rest of it. But in the mean time, let me share with you what I did try.

Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave In Conditioner

For the longest, all I ever wanted was a leave in conditioner that wouldn’t make my hair feel weighed down the next day. This reparative leave in helped me to achieve just that. On wash day, this is the first (and sometimes the only) product I put into my hair after cleansing. And when I have day 4 or day 5 hair, my curls are still soft and I can always add more leave in into my hair for moisture. I also love using this leave in to detangle my hair. It makes combing less of a hassle, making my comb and fingers run through my hair smoothly.

Blueberry Bliss Twist-N-Shout Cream

I’ve just started doing flat twists to my hair and I have been liking the results before I tried this product. I never used anything special in my hair specifically for my flat twists… until I found this cream. Typically, I let my flat twists sit over night, or if I’m in a bit of a time crunch, I let them sit for a couple of hours. On the packaging it says to use the cream and release your flat twists once your hair is completely dry, but I find that I love my results if my hair is damp.

Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of using gel in my curls. I only use gel if I’m doing any bun hairstyles. This jelly definitely defines my curls and controls my frizz. It is super lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky or leaves white flakes. Once I’m done putting all my products into my hair, I finish off with this for my go-to wash and go style.

Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Wash

I never really had a go-to shampoo for my curls, only because I never really found one that really cleaned my hair. So that’s why I decided to give this one a try. Usually I’ll wash my hair twice. The instructions on this bottle said to work the shampoo into the scalp and during the second time, to comb through the hair and leave it in for 10 minutes. I’ve never combed my hair with shampoo so I was skeptical to try it. It was a little hard the first time because with the shampoo, my hair has no slip. But once I rinsed my hair out, it felt so clean!

Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Mask

This hair mask is meant to be used as a conditioner but can also be used as a deep conditioner. I’ve mostly been using it as a deep conditioner and it has been working wonders for me. Already, I’ve seen a small amount of growth and the driest areas of my hair are loving the hydration!

Long story short, this Blueberry Bliss line by Curls is the truth! It smells good, works phenomenally and definitely gives great results. Check out curls.biz where you can find products for all curls, kinks and waves.
